Glaslough Chocolate was established in 2013 by chocolatier Trish Murphy-Thom in the beautiful historic village of Glaslough.
“I had moved back home to my native Glaslough in 2012. My daughter was ready to start school and my father had just been diagnosed with MS so I wanted to live closer to family. I needed a job that allowed me to work flexible hours and love what I was doing - making chocolate fit that perfectly."
The business soon moved into a small shop opposite Wright's Old Bar in the centre of Glaslough, just a few hundred metres away from the entrance to Castle Leslie estate.
With everything made right in front of customers, sold and usually eaten straightaway, freshness and outstanding taste were the foundation on which a solid, loyal customer base developed.
"In 2019, my sister-in-law Joulie and brother-in-law Brian joined me to build on those foundations and grow the business. We have since moved production into a small workshop right outside Glaslough and can now offer delicious, freshly brewed artisan coffee, tea and (of course!) hot chocolate in the shop in Glaslough.
Production methods have not changed, though - from fillings to decoration and packaging, everything is very much handmade, with freshness and fabulous flavours at the heart of everything we make."
Our aim is to keep our recipes simple and free from artificial flavour enhancers, colours and preservatives.
We only use fine, sustainably sourced Belgian chocolate, local honey from less than a mile away, fresh Monaghan cream and butter and a few other basic ingredients, sourced as fresh and local as possible. Our hazelnuts come directly from an organic, sustainable farm in Italy.
We make all our own fillings, from praline to fruit purees, as this gives us full control over ingredients and flavour. It also gives that fresh, homemade taste that translates into simply delicious chocolate!

We are proud to be able to say that our handmade chocolate has won numerous awards throughout the years - Trish entered the Blas na hEireann awards first in 2014 and Glaslough Chocolate took home quite a few awards since then.
Both our fresh cream vanilla fudge and our salted caramel hazelnut bar have won Silver at Blas na hEireann and a Great Taste Award, with our fresh cream truffles, milk chocolate caramels and raspberry bar taking home a Bronze each.
In 2022 we also won Best in County Monaghan, a success we are super proud of - there are amazing food producers around here!
